Description

The Hawfinch is a solidly built finch with a very strong beak that is gray in summer and cute in winter. It has a beautiful, colorful plumage in various red-brown and gray shades with a wide white wing band. The female is more subdued in the colors than the male. One can be lucky to see the core bitter on the feed board, but otherwise you see it rarely.

If you get to know the species’ special calling, a sharp, explosive sick, you will more often get a glimpse of the bird in flight. On the core bitter’s menu is especially seeds of cherry, mirabel, deciduous, yew, ash and sunflower seeds from the feed board. In addition, it eats in the spring like leaf buds and in summer insects.

Although the bird does not weigh more than approx. 50 grams, it is able to provide a pressure of up to 40 kg with its beak, and it can therefore open even the hardest stone fruits.
