Description
The codfish is widely spread in the eastern parts of the Atlantic Ocean and in inner Danish waters. It lives i salt water and in brackish water, usually near the bottom of the sea.
The codfish is known for its long beard-thread, the overbite, and the white sideline. The back and the side are often greyish brown with brown, reddish and yellow spots, and the belly is whitish. The color varies depending on the surroundings though.
Most of the codfish weighs 2,6 kilos, and can weigh up to 25 kilos. The codfish is a carnivorous fish, and it lives on mussels, crustacean, sea urchins and other fish.
The codfish spawns late in the winter or during spring, usually at a depth of 30-40 metres. The eggs slowly float to the surface of the water and hatch after 2-4 weeks, depending on the temperature of the water.
The meat of the codfish is light and with a much coveted neutral taste.
