Description

The bearded tit is a small bird with a very long tail, it is 14-15 cm, of which the tail is 7 cm. It lives close to the edges of a lake, and it breeds spread in Europe and in Central Asia.

The male bearded tit has a grey head with a black beard stripe, and the tail, the back and the wings are brown as cinnamon.

The female bearded tit doesn’t have the beard stripe, and her plumage is moreover subdued in color.

We can often see that the bearded tit flies in flock in order to find places with plenty of seeds, which are the main part of its food.

The bearded tit has a notable ability to reproduce. It can raise 3-4 broods a year – the eggs are laid from April to May. The young ones are able to breed already the same summer. The bearded tit is sensitive to frost, but the heavy decrease in number of population occurring in hard winters can be rectified in the following years.

The bearded tit is a resident, but particularly the young ones will in some years emigrate in the autumn because of a lack of food, but the bearded tit is though a common sight here and there in this country all the year round.
